Freshmen Students

This event is usually something your school will hold towards the end of summer, although they may hold it earlier. Not only will it make you more comfortable in your new school environment, and help get you used to a few teachers, but you can also use orientation as a social opportunity. That’s right — instead of hanging out with your mom, you can go out of your way to meet a few new people, and to hang out with your old friends. Wear your normal clothes, but make sure to put some effort into your appearance and hygiene. You only get to make one first impression. If you’re lucky enough to already know a bunch of people going to your high school, then great. Then you can talk to your friends in advance, ask about their schedules, and see who can sit with you at lunch. You can also be bold; make friends with kids at your swim club, at the mall, or from your summer soccer league. You’ll feel much more comfortable in school if you do.

But battling everything from homesickness to anxiety and depression can make it anything but. Here’s how to deal going into spring semester. Within minutes, I heard from Danielle not her real name , an year-old freshman at a university in Massachusetts.

Plus, there are so many more cuties to crush on now!

September 15, Is age just a number There’s probably never been a time in your adult life where a potential partner has turned you away because you’re too young — or too old. In a lot of ways, it makes the mystery of love all the more elusive: Does age difference matter to men? Does age really know no bounds? Is it really just a number? Except, of course, for some exceptions.

Modal Trigger Columbia University Getty Creative A disturbing wave of seven suicides and likely drug overdoses has swept through Columbia University so far this school year — and students say fiercely competitive academics and inadequate campus counseling programs are in large part to blame. They include a promising year-old journalist, a year-old Navy veteran, a Moroccan student and an year-old freshman from Brookfield, Missouri, named Taylor Gilpin Wallace.

He was surrounded by some of the brightest young minds on Earth — kids who were already starting businesses and nonprofits, or excelling in the arts.

Everybody puts on a good front for the public, even if they’re not so happy inside,” says Mary Commerford, PhD, director of the Furman Counseling Center at Barnard College.

Don’t worry, for pretty much everyone it’s a combo of both. So if you do any of these things, just know that you’re not alone. You can’t get your locker to open. You tried writing the instructions and combination on your hand, but it got smeared after gym class, and now you don’t know if that’s a two or a three. Not that you have any idea how to open your locker anyway.

Who can keep up with “turn it backwards twice then forward once, then go past zero”—too much! You actually bring all of your books to class. Even if you could open your locker, you have no idea where your next class is let alone how to get back to your locker during the couple of minutes between classes, so you break your back carrying around five huge textbooks. With that overstuffed backpack, you might as well have freshman written across your back.

You and your friends innocently sit down at a random empty table in the cafeteria. You don’t realize that there’s been an unspoken seating chart in place for years—and that table is for seniors only. Your parents drop you off every day for the first week. Not because you want them to, but because they insist.

What I’d Tell My College Freshman Self

Chat with us on Facebook Messenger. Dear College Girl, It has been almost 25 years since I graduated from college. I’ve now been a college graduate for over half of my life, if I’m doing the math correctly, and there is always an excellent chance that I’m not. And while I am most amazed at the reality that I am old enough to be your mother, I’m also astounded that those five years — I took a senior year victory lap; I highly recommend this — that happened so long ago have had such a profound, lasting effect on my life even all this time later.

It makes me wonder what I wish my year-old self knew as I moved into my dorm room and tried to figure out how to fit my entire wardrobe in a closet the size of a shower stall in a prison cell.

He passed on Georgia because then-coach Vince Dooley said he’d be redshirted, and he was unimpressed with Florida. Miss Betty fell in love with Sanders which is easy to do because he’s such a charmer and promised to take care of him as if he was her own son. And that sealed the deal. That night, he started in the outfield for Florida State’s baseball team.

During his final year at FSU, I received weekly notes from his Hayden Road address keeping me apprised of what he did on the field the previous weekend. It has been said Sanders’ dad could whip up a crowd like nothing you’ve ever seen. He did the same thing at his current home in Prosper, Texas.
